Social Justice Bibliography
Our work within Golden Bridge began as a place for dance, for unwinding trauma, opening our hearts, and awakening to the unique nature of our own souls. We have changed and matured through our time together. From somatics, we journeyed deeply into the landscape of human development and rites of passage processes. We know something about growing healthy humans in community. For decades we have been dancing into the deep and delicate terrain of social and environmental justice, leaning in and learning together. We are now embedding our years of liberatory research and practice into the fabric of our work at every level. We continue to incorporate the teachings grown from our collective center as we navigate along these unprecedented social and environmental edges in these unfathomable times.

Melissa Michaels, Ed.D. is a movement minister, an educator, and artist. She serves as a soul midwife for diverse people dancing along life’s edges. Melissa began growing the Golden Bridge moving community in the late ’80s, dedicating her work at that time to bringing somatics into modern educational thinking around the world. For decades, she has devoted herself to the healing, educating, initiating, and mentoring of generations of embodied global leaders. Towards that end, she organically developed the SomaSource path, a body-centered rite of passage process. Two generations later, the young people who came of age in this work are now standing by her side as body-centered artists, activists, educators, and healers. Together, they are creating culturally attuned transformative and educational opportunities for people of all ages and stages around the world.
Melissa’s work orients towards beauty, inclusion, creativity, resilience, and bridging across divides. She is devoted to mobilizing humanity in service of the sacred in all life.
